Let’s Go Fishing
April 7, 2024

For those of us who always wanted to go fishing and could not find the time.  Well congratulations, you are retired.
So let’s go fishing!

This is what I am doing and you may want to as well.   I went to TheSergeantPepper.com site and here is what I found.  I did not know what size hooks or fishing line and other accessories I would need to start my adventure so I got a book entitled, “Fishing for Dummies”  https://amzn.to/3wqOqHF –  Fishing was not as hard as I thought it would be.   I found that starting small and fishing from the shore was a great experience,  I was outside in the fresh air with the trees, birds and the lake in front of me and I also had many unexpected guests such as ants, chiggers, mosquitoes, ticks and other company.  Needless to say I found a new item to purchase to put into my new tackle box, insect repellant and I purchased a big hat for my head because everyone else was wearing one to keep the sun off their faces and tops of their heads.

Well I have learned a lot. I have learned that I don’t want to just sit on the side of the lake and just fish. I wanted to get out on the lake, but it didn’t really happen.  I found  myself walking back up to the truck and noticed all the people camping with their families and thought, I’d like to campout. So, I went back to TheSergeantPepper.com and ordered what I would need to camp.  I checked to see what was available for my camping expedition.  I found tents, griddles, coffee pots, pans, dishes and utensils, sleeping bags, cots, air mattresses and much more and purchased what I thought I would need.  Now, I was all set to start.  But then I thought, no I need some more insect repellant. Sleeping in a tent brings back old memories of sleeping on the ground and now I have an air mattress and cot for my old bones.  When I stepped out of my tent I smelled the sweet flowers, fresh air and felt the cool breeze blowing in from the lake.  Click here for Tents – https://amzn.to/4bcT0Z0  It gives you a sense of belonging, and you do. So I grabbed my fishing pole, tackle box with repellant and put my big hat on and started walking down to the lake in hopes of catching breakfast. While walking I noticed a trailhead sign with 2 arrows.  One read “Deer Run Trail – 5 miles long and the other read “Possum Loop” which is only 2 miles long.  I made a mental note to purchase hiking shoes, staff and binoculars for bird watching and for a better look at the countryside.  This will be for a future adventure.  Upon arriving at the shore I saw people in their boats fishing and catching what looked like pretty big fish however, right now I will have to settle for fishing from the bank.   So I settled in and threw my line out.  Being outside in God’s creation sure beats being cooped up in an office and keeping up with the day to day rat race and city life.  So when you get the chance, try it out.  You will be glad you did.
